Vietnam Airlines is teaming up with Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) to offer in-flight internet connectivity (IFC) on flights across its network starting in 2025.
The Vietnamese flag carrier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with VNPT for the collaboration which would lead to inflight Wi-Fi offered on the its flights starting in 2025.
Under the agreement, Vietnam Airlines plans to introduce IFC on international flights to the US, Europe, and select domestic routes by 2025. The service is then scheduled to be available on all remaining routes by 2026. VNPT will coordinate with Vietnam Airlines to build a roadmap, complete procedures, install hardware and software, and provide support operations.
Dang Ngoc Hoa, chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airlines, said the deployment of the IFC service will further contribute to helping the airline achieve its goal of becoming the region's leading digital technology airline in the near future.
The move will expand Vietnam Airlines' offering of inflight Wi-Fi. The airline previously introduced the service on four of its Airbus A350 aircraft in 2019.
Vietnam Airlines will join fellow Southeast Asia based carriers Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines to expand the offering of in-flight Wi-Fi on aircraft throughout their fleets.
